The golden parakeet
also known as the golden conure, is a stunning and unique bird species that can be found in the Amazon Basin of interior northern Brazil. This medium-sized parrot is the only species placed in the genus Guaruba, which makes it a truly one-of-a-kind bird.The golden parakeet gets its name from its bright yellow plumage. The golden parakeet has a rich history
dating back to the early days of exploration in the New World. The Dutch geographer Joannes de Laet listed the bird in his History of the New World in 1633, giving it the local name Guiarubas. The name comes from the Tupi language, with Guarajúba meaning "yellow bird". The bird was also described by the German naturalist Georg Marcgrave in 1648 in his Historia Naturalis Brasiliae.
Despite its long history
the golden parakeet remains a relatively unknown species to many people. However, its beauty and uniqueness make it a bird worth knowing and protecting.
